Program Overview
Courses and Activities
The educational opportunities offered to the participating students are:
- International co-supervision or committee membership
- Graduate courses from the other academic programs free of cost (maximum of three courses per student and a maximum of two students per university per year)*
- Online course Knowledge Production in Nursing and Health, which is a pre-requisite for the Summer School
- Summer School, which will comprise: a workshop on scientific publications, a seminar on PhD level research, international cultural and cooperative activities, and the course Building the Discipline of Nursing Internationally.
- Students are supposed to undertake and successfully finish three of the four activities to be eligible to certification.
Pre-requisites
Students registered at Nursing PhD programs of the Universidad Autonóma de Nuevo León, Universitat de les Illes Balears, Universitat de Lleida, Universidad Rovira y Virgili de Tarragon, University of Sao Paulo, University of Turku, University of Toronto, University of Sydney and University of Melbourne can apply to participate in this educational collaboration. Ideally, students should be in the first of the program.
Selection
A maximum of five students will be accepted bi-annually in each department/faculty. If the number of applicants surpasses this amount, the four coordinators will select the students according to the information gathered through the application process.
Application, Registration and Participation
In order to apply, a student should:
- Fill out the registration form and submit a curriculum vitae (link to form)
- Send a letter from her/his supervisor in support of the application and in agreement that the student will have a co-supervisor/committee member from one of the three other faculties
Those accepted into the collaboration will be registered as participants by the general coordinator. Students should attend/participate in three out of four program activities.
Certification
Students who successfully accomplish their program activities will receive, upon PhD completion, a certificate signed by the faculties' coordinators attesting their training on nursing and global health research.
Funding
Each department/faculty will provide some form of financial support to the participating students, but they vary according to institution. Please refer to your institutional coordinator to obtain information regarding your program.
*University of Toronto Visits
INPhD students interested in visiting the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto:
1. Each year, the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, will accept 3 INPhD students in total
2. If students are here for more than a month, they must register with the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and pay an incidental fee to cover educational costs (2010 fees: $1473.04). Fees may change each year. Students will also be required to pay for UHIP, the mandatory health insurance coverage for international students at the University of Toronto (2010 UHIP: $63/month or $756/year).
3. If students stay less than a month, they will not be required to pay the SGS fee but they must buy health insurance in their home country before arriving to Canada. Students who stay less than a month, will not have access to a library card, however they will still be provided with a working space.
