Information for Students and Professors attending the Summer School
Preparing your trip to Majorca
- Mallorca is a tourism destination, especially during the summer. It’s recommended that you
make your arrangements at least four months before your arrival date, if you want reasonable
fares for air travel tickets. There are many air travel companies to choose from. Make sure
your destination is Palma de Mallorca (airport code: PMI).
- The weather is typically Mediterranean. Summer is hot and dry (min. 20C and max. 35C).
Bring cool garments, sun glasses and sun screen, comfortable shoes/sandals, and don’t
forget your beachwear. You don’t need more than casual outfits and one more formal outfit (If
needed, you can always go shopping in Mallorca)
- If you want to travel by yourself, you can rent a car. You can book car rentals via Internet, or
you can book a place in a guided tour. Make these arrangements ahead of time, otherwise
there may be no spaces available or the prices can be more expensive. You can also use the
train which can take you to Inca, Sa Pobla, Manacor and Soller. There are buses which can
also take you to other smaller towns on the island. The following website provides information
on various forms of transportation within the island: http://tib.caib.es/index.en.htm
- Another option is to make plans with other students, so you can get better use of resources
and free time.

Arriving at Majorca and at the Residence
- Students will be housed at a quaint and peaceful convent: Casa D’Espiritualitat Germanes de
la Caritat. It is located in the outskirts of Palma, in the Son Roca neighbourhood. The address
is: Calle Reverendo Gabriel Bestard, 3-A, Son Roca, 07011, Palma de Mallorca, Spain - When you arrive at the airport, the most convenient way to get to the convent is by taxi (20-25
Euros): http://www.taxispalmaradio.com/ingles/index.php - You can also use the airport bus that goes downtown (route 1) and then transfer to the (Route
8) bus. Get off at the “Son Roca? stop which will leave you right in front of the convent. The
bus schedule during the Summer may vary, so please check fares and schedules at:
http://www.emtpalma.es/EMTPalma/Front/lineas.en.svr?accion=Entrada&cod_linea=8 - The Summer School is held at the Sa Riera building, which is a 15-20 minute bus ride from
the convent. The same bus (Route 8) will take you to the Sa Riera building. You can get off at
any of the following stops: “Instituts?, “Miquel dels Sants Oliver? and “Placa Forti?. Here you
can view a campus map: http://www.uib.es/lauib/localitzacio/Sa_Riera/Situacio
