For international master level students, the Department of Nursing Science offers annually the following courses in English:
AUTUMN TERM
1st week of September - 2nd week of December
Ethics in health care organization (3 ECTS) HOIT0802
in collaboration with Finnish-Nordic Society and Culture program.
The content of the course Ethics in Health Care Organization is
- The ethics in management of organizations
- Ethical theories and health care organizations
- Ethics and productivity in health care
Next course will be in fall 2012
The course also includes a test (examination).

The content of the course Finnish Health Policy in European context is
- Finnish health policy (content, history, legislation,actions)
- European health policy (guidelines, legislation)
- Health policy around Europe (examples of different European countries).

Empowering Patient Education module (25 ECTS) HOIT4000
Next course will start in fall 2012
Containing five courses (5 ects each):
- Orientation and theoretical basis of empowering patient education,
- Assessment of patients’ knowledge expectations,
- Patient education as an empowering intervention,
- Evaluation of empowering patient education, and
- Special issues in empowering patient education research.
Teaching methods: lectures, networking via Internet, individual paper, and seminar.
SPRING TERM
3rd week of Jan - 2nd week of May
Clinical Instruments for Evaluating Health - Development and Implementation (CIDI) (25 ECTS) HOITO0316
Next course will start in spring 2012
Containing three courses:
- Module I 5 ECTS
- Module II 10 ECTS
- Module III 10 ECTS
Course aims are:
- to introduce concept of instrument and principal methods of development, evaluation and implementation of an instrument in the healthcare settings
- to provide students with an understanding of techiques applicable to future instrument development and implementation
- to enhance skills for locating and critiquing published instruments
Teaching methods: lectures, networking via internet, individual paper and seminars
In addition student can have tailored courses in English in the following subject areas to meet her/his learning agreement:
- clinical nursing science
- gerontological nursing science
- mental health
- value basis and ethics in nursing
- nursing theory
- nursing didactics
