Research Program on Male Reproductive Health
The main research program of the Department and one of the centers of excellence in research, nominated by the Academy of Finland for the period of 2002-2007. Professor Ilpo Huhtaniemi directs the Research Program, the other principal investigators are Professor Jorma Toppari, Professor Matti Poutanen and Docent Antti Perheentupa.
The goal of the research is to address current key challenges in the field of male reproductive health (andrology).
Male Reproductive Health, Developmental Disorders and Spermatogenesis
Reproductive Health, Mechanisms of Hormone Action
Novel Diagnostics and Treatments In Reproductive Health
Research Program on Neurophysiology
Neurophysiology program consists of two independent research units. The Pain Research Unit (director: Prof. Antti Pertovaara) deals with pathophysiological mechanisms of pain modulation in humans using psychophysical methods, transcranial magnetic stimulation and human brain imaging. The Sleep Research Unit (director: Prof. Olli Polo, contact person Tarja Saaresranta, tarja.saaresranta@tyks.fi) is situated at the Dentalia Building, Lemminkäisenkatu 2 and has two fully equipped beds for sleep recordings with sophisticated respiratory monitoring.
