MEDI0210 Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Content: Otorhinolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. Audiology. Balance disorders. Phoniatrics and logopedics. Oral medicine.
Aims: The course gives to student basic knowledge of ear, nose and throat anatomy and physiology and of the most important diseases as well as teaches practical skills and diagnostic methods needed in general practice. Topics include first aid in head and neck traumatology, treatment of the most common acute and chronic ENT diseases and  ENT examination methods, use of diagnostic skills and tests, basic knowledge on prophylaxis and treatment of pediatric and adult ENT-diseases in order to know when to refer the patient to ENT specialist. In addition, to explain the existing diagnostic and clinical methods for treatment of ENT speciality. Course contains teaching of phoniatrics, laws and medico legal topics concerning ENT diseases and rehabilitation.  Hand skills for paracentesis and maxillary sinus irrigation are also learned.
Prerequisites:

Tutorials. Demonstrations of practical skills. Clinical training and patient examinations. Video and other demonstrations.Lectures only in Finnish. Maximum number of students 3.

Examination:

Written examination on ENT anatomy and physiology at the end of the first week. Written problem-based final examination.
