Duration: 16 weeks

Content:

Neurology textbook: Mumenthaler M, Mattle H: Neurology, Georg Thieme Verlag Stuttgart 2004 or other neurology textbook of comparable extent.
Practical small group teaching at the neurological out-patient department (16 hours)
Practical training at neurological emergency room (6 hours), stroke-unit and neurological ward (24 hours). Lectures only in Finnish

Aims: After completing the course the student will be able to perform a clinical neurological examination, to diagnose common neurological disorders, to understand examinations and treatment of most prevalent neurological diseases, to identify neurological disorders requiring immediate treatment and to understand treatment and follow-up of patients with chronic neurological disorders.
Prerequisites: Maximum number 4 students
Examination:

Written final examination
The student has to master the material included in the course teaching supplemented with a neurology textbook.
