6 (max. 9) students interested in emergency medicine and anaesthesiology

Clinical rotation

Eight week rotation in Emergency Room, Operation Department and Intensive Care Department in groups of two students, half day five days each week. The student should learn to understand the chain of care from field to definitive care in common emergencies like coronary syndromes, trauma, neurosurgical emergencies, intoxication, and other acute situations. The emphasis is on principles of emergency diagnostics and monitoring, transportation, maintenance of homeostasis and life support, and primary care.
Seminars Seminars are together with the local students who take the special emergency medicine course. Each student will prepare and give one or several short lectures (30 min) on the assigned topic. The presentations are distributed to all the participants and they are one requirement in the final examination.

Demonstration

Demonstration of principles of monitoring, principles of airway managements and mechanical ventilation, estimation and replacement of blood loss, and maintenance of thermal balance in the operation room.

Practise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Demonstration and hands-on practise of basic life support, advanced life support on a mannequin.

Excursions

Excursion to regional ambulance facility and ambulance helicopter.
