Clinical Rotation

Course title and Code ANET5002 Clinical Rotation in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

Requirements

The student must have basic knowledge in anaesthesia and intensive care when starting clinical rotation. This can be acquired by reading from textbooks or by completing the corresponding course in home university. The textbook used in the Department is Lecture Notes.  Clinical Anaesthesia, by Carl L. Gwinnutt, 3rd edition, Wiley Blackwell 2008.

When

Autumn term (max 6 students) : August – December, limited to times when the local students do not have their rotation.  
Spring term (max 6 students) : January – May 
Rotation 4-8 weeks, 3-6 hours daily  
Rotation various operation rooms of the  Department and in Intensive Care Department. The student should learn principles of perioperative care, monitoring, maintenance of homeostasis and life support, and primary care. Guided observance of clinical patient care in anaesthesia and intensive care, practice of basic skills in anaesthesia, and discussions of topics of the specialty are offered.  
Demonstration 2 h  
Demonstration of principles of monitoring, principles of airway managements and mechanical ventilation, estimation and replacement of blood loss, and maintenance of thermal balance in the operation room. 
Practise in cardiopulmonary resuscitation 2 h  
Demonstration  
nd hands-on practise of basic life support, advanced life support on a mannequin.

ANET5003 Examination in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care

When At the end of Clinical Rotation in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
The examination is optional and will be organised only if requested.
Required reading Textbook: Lecture Notes. Clinical Anaesthesia, Carl L. Gwinnut, Wiley Blackwell, 3rd edition 2008.

Passing the examination requires at least 50 % of maximum points, and the passed examination is graded 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).
