Public Health Dentistry
The main theme is clinical and economic aspects of the development and evaluation of the prevention of oral diseases. In addition, we are investigating the promotional healt and international cooperation in dentistry.
These include the optimal use of xylitol and erythritol, their long-term effects and cost-benefit figures, targeting and timing of the exposure. Work division and organization in public health care are studied in relation to cariological and orthodontic treatment.
To eliminate the harmful effects of present-type pacifiers, a new pacifier has been developed and evaluated, together with the Department of Orthodontics. The development includes a slow-release structure for the application of preventive measures.
The etiology and occurrence of temporomandibular disorders, and their cooccurence with headache and use of health services are studied, in cooperation with the Depatrment of Stomatognathic Physiology.
