Prosthetic Dentistry
The Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials Science provides education within the disciplines of oral rehabilitation and dental and medical biomaterials sciences. Education is given both on undergraduate and graduate levels for the students in DDS, MD and PhD programs.
The importance of prosthetic dentistry and biomaterials science is increasing due to the increasing number of elderly people and rapid development in the field of materials sciences, which has introduced new restorative materials for reconstructive medicine. During their studies dental students will learn the basic rules for restoring the damaged occlusion and for understanding the properties of restorative materials. They will also learn to use traditional and modern restorative materials in clinical settings. The students in the MD programme will get information on the mechanical and biological properties of biomaterials and their potential for medical applications. The teaching program consists of lectures, seminars and chair-side training sessions.
