Pediatric Dentistry
Education in the subject is given at basic, continuing, and at specialist level. The goal of the discipline is to improve the oral health of children and adolescents through health promotion, prevention, and comprehensive oral care. The discipline comprises recognition and care of the major dental diseases, as well as dental and oral conditions specific to childhood and adolescence. These include all aspects of dental and occlusal developmental disturbances, traumatic injuries to teeth, periodontal conditions, oral pathological conditions, prevention and control of pain and anxiety, assessment of treatment need and treatment of handicapped and medically compromised children. Pediatric dentistry applies principles of other clinical disciplines and behavioural sciences for the benefit of the growing child from birth through infancy and childhood to late adolescence.
